The new Meister Automatic models from Junghans are breathing life back into the 1950s. A time of upheaval and the blossoming of watch making mechanics.

The 1950s and 1960s are remembered for their spirit of optimism and a zest for life. After years of hardship and deprivation, the economy was booming in Germany and people were enjoying being able to travel again, and to savour all things good in life. The mechanical watch evolved as a symbol for this new quality of life, quickly becoming a much loved item of jewellery to be worn on special occasions, either purchased for one’s own use or presented as a gift.

The new Meister Automatic models from Junghans convey the attitude towards life from this era to the here and now. In accordance with the entire Meister range, they feature all characteristic design elements of their celebrated predecessors. These timepieces portray with great authen-ticity the same history of the Meister watches which originated back in the 1930s, and which then went on to enjoy their heyday in the 1950s.

A dark median stripe exhibited on the hands tapering out to a point on the new Meister Auto-matic was typical for designs in the 1950s era. The unobtrusive dial features a double bar index at 12 o’clock, and even the calf leather strap is representative of these archetypal designs: so evocative of the 1950s, a punched line without seam on the finished leather completes the over-all classy look of the timepiece. The case back on the rear side of the housing allows a glimpse into the self-winding movement of the watch.

The Meister Automatic is a modern interpretation in reminiscence of the 1950s – when mechanics were blossoming and a revitalised joie de vivre was in the air.
